What We’re About

First Baptist Church seeks to help people have a healthy, growing relationship with God that helps them become more like Jesus everyday. From Bible studies to service projects, we ask the questions, “Will this help someone become more like Jesus?” and “How does this help people get traction in life?” Everything we do centers around seeing God transform lives.

We are a Southern Baptist church and agree with a general statement of faith called the Baptist Faith and Message. In short, this means we emphasize Scripture, pray together, baptize people when they are old enough to choose baptism for themselves, do church as a family, and support Southern Baptist missions regionally, nationally, and globally.

First Baptist Church was founded in Ganado in 1894, and 2019 was our 125th birthday. Our church services reflect the history of our church, the present culture we live in, and the future hope and vision we have in Christ for our community. We worship though music ranging from classic hymns to the modern songs of today, and our pastor preaches from the Bible with a focus on applying it to today.

We hope you will follow Jesus with us as we engage in worship, study the Bible with others, and serve on mission. We welcome the opportunity to introduce you to Jesus, and we look forward to the future ministry God has in store for us as we serve God and help people get traction in life.

What We Believe

LiveByFaith_mainThe Bible

We believe the Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter.

 God

There is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. To Him we owe the highest love, reverence, and obedience. The eternal, triune God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

God the Father
God the Father reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purposes of His grace. He is all powerful, all knowing, all loving, and all wise. He is fatherly in His attitude toward all people.

God the Son
Christ is the eternal Son of God and is truly God. In His incarnation as Jesus Christ, He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin, Mary. Jesus was perfectly obedient to God, and in His death on the cross, He made provision for people to be redeemed.

God the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine. He inspired holy men of old to write the Bible. The Holy Spirit convicts pre-Christians of their need for salvation and followers of Christ to confess sin. He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, and bestows the spiritual gifts by which they serve God through His church. He enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism, and service.
Hosanna-Theme

Humanity

Humanity is the special creation of God, made in His own image. He created them male and female as the crowning work of His creation. In the beginning, man was innocent of sin and was endowed by his Creator with freedom of choice. By his free choice, man disobeyed (sinned against) God and brought sin into the human race. Therefore, as soon as they are capable of moral action, people sin and are under condemnation. Only the grace of God can bring people into His holy fellowship and enable them to fulfill the creative purpose of God.

Salvation

Salvation is the free gift of God offered by His grace through faith in Jesus Christ. It involves the redemption of the whole person and is offered to all who will trust Jesus Christ alone as their hope in this life and the next. In order to trust Jesus for this gift, one must turn from sin and come home to God. Salvation involves a spiritual change made by the Holy Spirit whereby a person is brought into a relationship of peace and favor with God, begins and continues moral and spiritual maturity, and finishes life in the presence of God fully restored and fully blessed in heaven.

Title

Our Hope

We believe that Jesus Christ offers hope for both our present life and our future. We know this hope as salvation.

“Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ at Lord and Savior.”

The key to salvation is trusting in Jesus Christ alone for your forgiveness and gift of heaven.

We believe heaven and forgiveness are free gifts of God. We as people do not earn them nor do we deserve them.

We cannot earn and do not deserve those gifts because of who we are. All people sin  either in big ways or little ways every day, and God has a zero tolerance policy on sin.

God is also loving and does not want to punish people for their sin, but God is good and just. He has to do something about the wrong we do.

God’s answer to this dilemma of love and justice is Jesus Christ. Jesus is true God and true man. He came from heaven to earth and lived a perfect life (i.e. zero sin).

Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay the price for our sin and purchase our place in heaven. Jesus rose from the dead and lives forever to pay for our sin forever.

We receive the gifts of heaven and forgiveness through faith. Faith is not just knowing about Jesus in your mind. Faith is not believing in Jesus just long enough to make it through some circumstance.

True saving faith, the way we receive the gifts of heaven and forgiveness, is trusting in Jesus Christ alone for those gifts and not anyone nor anything else.

Jesus Christ is our hope. If you would like more information about a relationship with God, please call the church office at (361) 771-2403, email us at fbc@ykc.com, or join us on Sundays. We’d love to talk to you about our hope for now and the future.
